Our local Government CLIENT relies on a large, complex network of systems, applications, and services to serve our community. Currently, there is a critical gap in systems-level documentation and dependency mapping.
We need an expert Senior Systems Analyst to lead a 3-month intensive discovery phase. The dual objectives of this engagement are to:
- Discovery & Auditing: Conduct a targeted audit of core IT infrastructure, primary applications, associated network segments, and key cloud services leveraging existing system logs and SME-provided configurations.
- Dependency Mapping: Identify and document how systems interact, data flows, integration points, and critical dependencies.
- Technical Diagramming: Translate complex technical environments into clear, easily digestible high-level logical architecture, data flow, system dependency and operational diagrams.
- Stakeholder Interviews: Interview subject matter experts, system admins, and departmental users to uncover undocumented legacy configurations and "shadow IT."
- Service Catalog Development: Group discovered systems and applications into logical IT services, establishing a baseline Technical Service Catalog that can be used for future ITSM and Disaster Recovery planning.
- Systems & Data Analysis: Deep understanding of modern and legacy IT application flows, data integration points, and high level infrastructure concepts (on-premise servers, cloud services, and SaaS applications).
- Technical Diagramming: Advanced proficiency in diagramming tools (e.g., MS Visio, Lucidchart, Draw.io).
- Infrastructure Knowledge: Strong foundational knowledge of networking concepts, Active Directory, virtualization, databases, and API integrations.
- ITSM / Service Catalog
Experience:
Proven experience translating technical infrastructure into ITIL-aligned Service Catalogs or Configuration Management Databases (CMDB).
- Investigative Methodology: Ability to piece together disparate information from outdated documents, system logs, and user interviews to build a complete picture.
- Rapid Onboarding:
Ability to parachute into a complex, undocumented environment and begin delivering value immediately. - Technical Translation: Skill in translating highly technical network topologies into business-readable documentation and service definitions.
We need a proactive investigator who is comfortable navigating ambiguity. The ideal candidate is:
- Highly Autonomous: Can drive the discovery process forward independently, supported by scheduled access to key SMEs and internal documentation.
eDiplomatic & Approachable:
Able to extract information from busy IT staff and institutional knowledge holders without causing disruption or defensiveness.
- Analytical & Detail-Oriented: Has a passion for organizing chaos, mapping structures, and finding the "missing links" in complex ecosystems.
- Pragmatic: Understands that in a 3-month sprint, delivering an accurate, foundational baseline is the priority over perfectly polished theory.
