About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Underwriting Assistant to support a collaborative insurance team within a Managing General Agency (MGA). This opportunity offers hands-on training and exposure to underwriting operations, policy documentation, property information, and risk evaluation.

You will help keep time-sensitive work moving, maintain accurate information, and communicate with colleagues across underwriting, claims, compliance, and product teams. You will also learn how catastrophe modeling supports underwriting, pricing, business planning, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and distribute policy correspondence and legal documents by mail or email within required deadlines.
  • Support the building inspection process by reviewing information for completeness and consistency and communicating unusual findings promptly.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow established procedures and service standards.
  • Communicate professionally with internal teams and other stakeholders regarding documents, information requests, and processing needs.
  • Develop an understanding of agency operations, insurance product distribution, and claims procedures.
  • Work with Underwriting, Compliance, Claims, and Product teams to identify workflow improvements.
  • Share feedback and practical suggestions to improve accuracy, efficiency, and service.
  • Provide backup support during busy periods and team member absences.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to review information accurately.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and a customer-service mindset.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Curiosity, willingness to learn, and comfort asking questions.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in insurance, mortgage operations, or a related office environment.
  • Completed insurance or financial coursework or professional designations.
  • Familiarity with building construction types or terminology.
Training and Contract Details

Hands-on training will help you learn the team’s systems, procedures, and underwriting support activities.

The assignment is expected to last 6–12 months, with the goal of transitioning to permanent employment if business needs and approvals allow. If conversion is unavailable at the end of 12 months, an additional six-month extension may be considered based on workload.
