This position is responsible for researching all areas of law as required and preparing documents to assist the County Attorney and Assistant County Attorney with legal actions and administrative functions, and performing clerical operations of the department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Obtains and accesses legal authorities, and researches and analyzes statutes, case law, legal articles, regulations, legislative history, court rules and legal codes.
  • Drafts, prepares, and organizes all pleadings, motions, notices, orders and other legal documents; delivers, arranges for process service as required, and files legal pleadings and documents for proceedings in District Court, County Court, Court of Appeals, Supreme Court, the Board of Assessment Appeals, Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Office of Administrative courts and regulatory agencies.
  • Gathers, collects, organizes, prepares, delivers, and files exhibits and discovery for proceedings in District Court, County Court, Court of Appeals, Supreme Court, Board of Assessment Appeals, Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Office of Administrative Courts and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinates witness testimony for deposition and trial, and prepares trial notebooks.
  • Attends courtroom proceedings as requested and provides courtside assistance with exhibits, case folders, witness coordination, locating and obtaining legal authorities, and taking trial notes.
  • Communicates/maintains general contact with client Grand County government agencies regarding client requests and case progress.
  • Drafts and prepares a litigation, claim and assessment letter to accompany the annual county audit.
  • Gathers, collects, organizes, prepares, distributes and delivers documents and letters responsive to open records requests.
  • Drafts and prepares resolutions for the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), Board of Health, Board of Social Services, Grand County Housing Authority Board and Board of Equalization.
  • Drafts, prepares correspondence and memoranda for the Office of the County Attorney, Board of County Commissioners, and other departments as directed.
  • Drafts and prepares contracts, agreements, MOUs, IGAs, leases, quit claim deeds, and licenses for the BOCC and other agencies of Grand County government.
  • Attends and takes minutes of Department head meetings and committee meetings as requested and takes dictation.
  • Attends hearings before the Board of Equalization referee.
  • Retains records for the Office of County Attorney to include organizing, copying, scanning, paper filing and/or electronic filing.
  • Prepares departmental warrants to be paid.
  • Maintains County Attorney calendars, schedules appointments and meetings, arranges/coordinates the setting of court appearances, depositions (schedules and hires transcriber), and phone conferences.
  • Answers and screens department telephone calls, directs calls and takes messages and maintains department mail.
  • Greets visitors, dispenses rules, regulations and related information as needed and directs to appropriate area or person as required.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Possession of a paralegal certificate or degree; and two (2) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid, State of Colorado driver’s license is required at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Notary public certificate. Employee is required to travel occasionally within the County.

Category County Attorney Office Status Open Hiring Incentive Pay:
This position is eligible for hiring incentive pay in the amount of $5,000.00 ($2,500.00 after six months in position; $2,500.00 after two years in position).
