Job DescriptionColorado Correctional Industries (CCI) is responsible for programs, manufacturing goods and providing services to thousands of government and/or non-profit customers in Colorado. This position provides daily oversight of the State Wildland Inmate Fire Team (SWIFT) Trails Teams and Heavy Equipment. This position provides offender employment and training, evaluates equipment and resource needs, and supervises staff in these programs with the goal to employ and train as many offenders within the work units while maintaining security in the workplace.
ResponsibilitiesInclude But Are Not Limited To
- Directly supervises the day to day operations of the Heavy Equipment and SWIFT and Trails teams by coordinating forest management projects including wildland fires, wildfire mitigation, and rehabilitation, timber stand improvement, beetle kill management, tree planting, and trail construction;
- Supervises Heavy Equipment and SWIFT and Trails Crew supervisors and Crew bosses; participates in applicant interviews; schedules staffing patterns; approves training opportunities; and resolves complaints/grievances at the informal level;
- Trains and instructs staff and offenders in the appropriate use of all relevant tools, equipment, and procedures to ensure efficient, safe, and effective completion of assigned tasks;
- Develops, monitors, and defends business plans, operating budgets, offender pay plans, cost accounting data, and processes to ensure operations fulfill the CCI and CDOC mission;
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation and record keeping of revenues, expenditures, and inventories for assigned areas;
- Ensures compliant health and safety standards are met; maintains updated and accurate records and documentation;
- Ensures a safe and secure correctional working environment.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned or required.
Five (5) years of one of the following wildland firefighting, forest management, trail development, general firefighting experience or sales, project management and bidding projects. Or a minimum of three (3) years of experience, as described above may be combined with experience in a correctional environment for a total of at least five (5) years. Correctional Experience - must be security related duties where primary responsibilities included detaining, controlling movement and escorting inmates in a prison facility;
conducting counts and searches while monitoring inmate assignments and movement throughout the day.
Must be able to obtain a FF2 certification (Red Card) within One (1) year of hire.
Substitutions- Education from an accredited college or university in fire science or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis. If you are using education as a substitution, you must attach transcripts showing the degree and date awarded.
- National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) certification at the Single Resource Level (Crew Boss) will substitute for three (3) years of the required experience. You must attach a copy of your NWCG certification with your application.
