Overview
Estes Energetics, along with its subsidiary Goex Industries, is an American manufacturer of black powder, chemicals, and rocket motors. Our agile and experienced team supports the Department of Defense, strengthens domestic production, preserves history, serves hunting and shooting sports enthusiasts, and ignites a passion for rocketry in youth. We seek a Safety and Compliance Manager at our Penrose location to build on existing policies, procedures, and programs and continually improve safety and compliance.
EssentialFunctions
- Ensure the safety of employees and the manufacturing plant by maintaining and improving safety programs.
- Maintain compliance with applicable regulations and standards (and other similar ones that may arise):
- OSHA regulations, including Process Safety Management
- ATF explosives regulations and state equivalents
- Department of Transportation HAZMAT regulations
- DODM 4145.26 DOD Contractor's Safety Manual for Ammunition and Explosives
- DODM 5100.76 Physical Security of AA&E
- ISO 9001
- AS9100
- Seek continual improvement of safety, processes, and equipment.
- Perform risk and hazard analyses across research, development, manufacturing, and testing operations.
- Maintain, write, and implement policies and procedures; ensure compliance with environment, health, and safety regulations; act as liaison with authorities.
- Required:
Ten years of experience as a safety specialist or in a similar role. - Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to enforce schedules and procedures (including informal leadership).
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to learn and retain technical concepts in chemical and mechanical engineering.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Degree or 10 years experience in a safety-related field; experience with explosives; prior experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or chemical industries; experience with hazardous materials.
- Bachelor s degree in a relevant field; familiarity with the regulations listed in Essential Functions.
- Office and manufacturing environment, including outdoors.
- May require lifting up to 50 pounds; frequent movement through a manufacturing environment.
- Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate.
Up to 10%
Position Type and HoursFull-time, 9/80 schedule; at least 40 hours per week with possible overtime.
