Nurse Practitioner - Corrections (Notional)

This position is NOTIONAL and is contingent upon contract award.
Role OverviewThe Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, under the supervision of the facility physician, provides advanced nursing services and patient care in the facility’s medical program to inmates/residents. The successful applicant should be able to perform all listed functions at a performance level consistent with job requirements.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive nursing care, including executing physician's orders, dispensing medications, performing examinations, and treatments.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient health.
- Record findings, formulate prognosis, and discuss cases with physicians and health professionals.
- Recommend drugs and treatments within licensure scope.
- Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate early releases when appropriate.
- Ensure cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
- Assist in monitoring contractual health services.
- Maintain good relationships with staff, providers, and external agencies.
- Use established policies and sound judgment in decision-making.
- Evaluate medical service provision to prevent misuse or duplication.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records and review documentation.
- Monitor potential catastrophic health issues.
- Suggest improvements for operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws.
- Observe inmate/resident behavior and accept on-call duties.
- Provide health education and counseling.
- Interpret medical and legal documents, respond to lawsuits, and attend court if needed.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
- Participate in staff meetings and quality assurance activities.
- Perform safety checks and emergency functions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
- Handle emergencies and assist in rescue functions.
- Maintain effective working relationships and handle difficult interactions.
- Chart medical care properly and react calmly in emergencies.
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program with current licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, training in family practice preferred.
- At least one year of professional nursing experience.
- BLS certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum age: 18 years.
