Nature of WorkUnder general direction, performs general and semi‑skilled labor, maintenance, grounds keeping, construction, repair and upkeep work for the Town of Mountain Village public grounds, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
Note:
This is a full‑time, year‑round position with the Plaza Services team.
- Performs a variety of grounds keeping activities including maintaining assigned property, plazas, landscaping, lawns and gardens, and assures compliance with all safety rules and regulations; ensures that work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
- Conducts fertilizing, weed control, mowing, seeding and watering procedures; conducts general clean up of trash and debris; collection of trash and recycling from receptacles in public areas; inspects landscaped areas; loads and hauls materials; plants and prunes trees, shrubs, and flowers; waters flowerbeds, pots, and baskets.
- Participates in maintaining grounds and common areas including weed control, repair of hardscape, snow and ice removal, irrigation systems, sweeping public areas, cleaning ash trays, and removing debris from public places and environment, empties public trash and recycling receptacles.
- Monitors compliance with Plaza and Town policies including special events, plaza uses, plaza vehicle access permitting and policies, motorized cart policies, and plaza license agreements.
- Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Performs the upkeep and replanting of flower beds; plants flowers and foliage; maintains and weeds flower beds, pots, and baskets; performs a variety of landscaping functions including planting and trimming trees and shrubs, and mowing and fertilizing, raking, aeration of lawns.
- Performs snow and ice removal in public plazas.
- Assists with minor maintenance activities including painting, oiling, staining and waterproofing of public benches, light posts, signage, fences, and trash cans when necessary.
- Collects and disposes of garbage and recyclables from public common areas.
- Participates in the physical set‑up and break‑down of events; oversees event activities to ensure group activities are in compliance with Town Policies.
- Monitors public restrooms and public trash rooms for cleanliness and reports issues to supervisor.
- Assembles, installs, and removes holiday decorations.
- Installs and removes bike racks, ski racks, and other seasonal infrastructure.
- Reports the need for maintenance on tools and motorized machinery including bobcats, mowers, chain saws, power leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters and other equipment.
- Assists with implementation of programs developed to achieve the community’s environmental goals including weed control, energy efficiency, zero waste and watershed health.
- Tracks inventory of department supplies and materials.
- Performs research and basic computer skills for department including word processing, spreadsheets, and internet searching.
- Acts as a liaison, when necessary between Mountain Village and its residents and guests, subcontractors, vendors, and merchants giving direction and assistance in a friendly and professional manner.
- Promotes and observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary; may attend safety committee meetings, actively participates in and may conduct tailgate trainings.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team. Actively works to progress the Town’s goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content,…
