Overview
A merchandise stocker is an employee who ensures that shelves and aisles are stocked with the merchandise in retail stores or warehouses. Merchandise stockers must receive the goods, unload or unpack them, mark them with codes to be identified, and stock them on shelves. They help customers to fill orders through mail, web, or phone while preparing the customers' merchandise for shipment.
They must also operate a forklift so that they can lift or place merchandise at the assigned shelves.
- Clean stock area and maintain cleanliness of the retail area.
- Use RF scanners to perform price markdowns for monthly clearance.
- Track product locations and expiration dates using RF scanners.
- Assist customers by locating items and bagging groceries.
- Perform additional duties as assigned (e.g., maintain orders and store cleanliness; assist as cashier).
- Greet customers while bagging groceries, collect carts in the parking lot, return items, and perform general sanitation.
- Perform repetitious work accurately and with attention to detail.
- Work efficiently to meet store or department performance standards.
- Pallet Jack — 34% proficiency:
Use pallet jacks to move and sort full pallets of merchandise, stock incoming merchandise, and set up displays/end caps. - Customer Service — 28% proficiency:
Provide customer service by answering questions and advising on merchandise selection. - Stock Shelves — 18% proficiency:
Oversee freight to stock shelves; inventory and move items to and from backroom. - Customer Satisfaction — 5% proficiency:
Prioritize customer satisfaction. - Store Management — 2% proficiency:
Communicate with store management on changes and updates within the department.
