Essential Duties- Pick up and deliver parts or products from different vendors located throughout Colorado and surrounding areas.
- Present themselves in a courteous and professional manner to all vendors.
- Assist mechanics with inventory control work orders, checking inventory in and out, regular physical counts of existing inventories, check out parts and materials, data entry on the computers, filing of paperwork and keeping all files current and up to date.
- Transport vehicles for windshield maintenance, warranties and general repairs. Transport personnel or equipment as deemed necessary by Fleet Manager or as designated by the Public Works Director.
- Help with maintenance of parts room, fleet office and equipment. Keep parts room in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Operation of all necessary equipment used in the loading and unloading of parts and supplies.
- Maintain parts vehicle in clean orderly condition inside the vehicle and in the vehicle storage areas.
- Participating in Emergency Support Functions.
- Perform basic maintenance work such as changing oil and filters, grease and lube service, change, balance, and rotate tires, and change air, fuel, and hydraulic filters.
- Perform shop cleanup tasks such as sweeping, washing down, and putting tools and equipment in assigned locations when finished using them.
- Painting and placing of decals.
- Operate heavy equipment including motor grader, loader and/or single and tandem axle plow trucks for road maintenance, construction and snow removal, after obtaining CDL.
- Be available to assist with emergencies and snow removal at any time including weekends and holidays.
- Perform entry level operator maintenance on equipment and vehicles including preventive maintenance and assisting with major repairs on occasion such as tire repair, replacement of cutting edges, etc.
- Perform manual labor including lifting 50 pounds routinely and 80 pounds on occasion for patching, culvert maintenance, crack sealing, etc.
Skills and Abilities
- Some knowledge of standard automotive and truck parts and accessories.
- Some knowledge of the proper use of parts manuals and supply catalogs.
- Some knowledge of methods for organizing and storing automotive and equipment parts.
- Some knowledge of inventory control methods and procedures.
- Some knowledge of parts and accessories for large trucks or heavy equipment.
- Ability to safely handle materials and parts.
- Demonstrate basic ability to provide day‑to‑day maintenance of equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
- Reasonable effective verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and produce quality work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co‑workers.
- Must possess basic knowledge of vehicle parts and their purpose.
- Must pass background checks, motor vehicle record and the pre‑employment drug test.
Schedule/
Hours:
Some evenings, weekends and holidays may be required. The normal work week is 40 hours. Overtime may be required for projects, emergencies and snow removal. Employees will report to their assigned shop or assigned work location and may be reassigned based upon needs of the Public Works Department. Operation hours are 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Overtime may be approved or required by Fleet Manager or Director.
Nature of Contact with others required for successful job performance:
This position requires contact with vendors to exchange information on a daily basis. In addition, the individual will have contact with the employees of the Public Works Department, their division and other Park County departments on a daily basis.
Responsibility for Property, Materials, Money and Confidential Information:
