Hiring Bonus and how it works -

  • Lateral Engineer: $5,000 upon successful completion of City's 14 day mini
    - Fire Academy, $5,000 upon passing probation (typically 12 months from date of hire), $5,000 on the 1-year anniversary of successfully passing probation.
  • Newly hired Fire Engineer: $2,500 after passing six (6) month probationary test, $5,000 upon successfully passing probation (typically 12 months from date of hire), $7,500 on the one (1) year anniversary of successfully passing probation.

Training and Experience

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of full-time employment as a Firefighter (or higher rank) with a municipal, district, state, tribal, or federal fire agency. Current employment in a public fire agency is preferred but not required.

Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid California Class C license with Firefighter Endorsement or higher (Class A or

    B) issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and good driving record.
  • Must have a minimum of an Emergency Medical Technician B Certificate.

  • Must possess California State Fire Training Apparatus Operator 1A AND 1B (OR City of Colton Fire Department Engineer) certifications.

NOTE:

Candidates with out of state EMT certification will be required to obtain State of California EMT certification at the time of hire.
