This is an as Needed Part-Time Essential Services Position which will require you to work day and/or night shifts to include weekends and holidays. This position is subject to the Service Contract Act and is classified as non-exempt, which means you will be eligible for overtime. Hourly: $28.73/hr

Job Summary

Our Linguists perform real-time transcriptions of sensitive material from Spanish (Caribbean Dialects) to English. They collect, analyze, identify, and decode colloquialisms and slang terms, extract pertinent information, and communicate that information to law enforcement agents. They transcribe source documents and recordings from storage media (e.g., audio cassettes, videocassettes, digital media).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre-recorded communications in Spanish and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as applicable per project.
  • Relate pertinent information to the Client when supporting a live project.
  • Contribute to a master list of slang words and codes used by a group/organization for the project duration.
  • Maintain a voice library for the project duration.
  • Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Produce court-ready transcriptions of calls, chats, and documents in the required format.
  • Use reference tools created during the project.
  • Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8-hour day.
  • Operate government-provided software and equipment (e.g., JSI voice box, Pen-link, Comverse) at the assigned site.
  • Maintain a daily productivity log.
  • Perform related duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years’ professional experience OR Associate degree with five (5) years’ experience OR High School Diploma with seven (7) years’ experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of transcription experience in the required language.
  • Applicants may be subject to a government background investigation and eligibility for access to classified information.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
  • Knowledge of source language colloquial terms and expressions; familiarity with SMS language, social media, and Web chat.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in the target language with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to meet contract requirement of a score of 3 or better on a third-party Language Assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in English.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively with management and law enforcement personnel.
  • Good time management, prioritization, and ability to balance multiple tasks in a team environment.
  • Ability to take technical direction and feedback from various sources.
  • Typing speed of 45 words per minute.
Clearance

Applicants may be subject to a government background investigation and must meet the following conditions of employment: ability to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance; favorable credit check for cleared positions; successful passing of a background investigation, medical, and drug screen; US Citizenship; permanent residents who have lived in the US for the past 3 of the last 5 years.

  • Standing/Walking/Mobility: mobility to attend meetings with managers and employees.
  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of the time.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of the time.
  • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: able to write, type, and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
  • Sitting: prolonged sitting while monitoring live or taped calls; may be restricted when handling live monitoring and translating calls.
