. We are a defense contractor dedicated to protecting naval fleets worldwide. We engineer advanced systems and materials for demanding environments, including surface vessels, sub‑surface operations, and unmanned platforms.
The Materials Science Engineer – Materials & Process Expert will lead and support research, development, and production activities focused on advanced materials for defense and undersea applications. This role applies expertise in chemicals, materials processes, and characterization to solve complex technical challenges and deliver high‑performance materials solutions for DoD customers.
Key Responsibilities- Lead materials selection, testing, and implementation of ceramics, composites, and coatings used in maritime defense systems.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis and failure investigations for material and process issues.
- Perform laboratory and analytical testing; interpret and report data with scientific rigor.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to scale materials from concept to production.
- Support DoD program requirements, technical documentation, and secure project execution.
- Develop technical reports, proposals, and presentations for internal and customer stakeholders.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, analysis, and project management.
- Travel up to 15% for supplier engagement, testing activities, and program reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in materials, manufacturing processes, potting materials/process of ceramics, and chemical primers used to improve bonding.
- Hands‑on experience with ceramic materials, composites, or coatings (processing, sintering, or characterization).
- Proven ability to perform root‑cause analysis, material failure assessments, and data‑driven decision‑making.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to prepare detailed technical documentation.
- U.S. citizenship required; eligible for a DoD Security Clearance.
- Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or defense‑related R&D programs.
- Familiarity with materials testing and characterization (SEM, EDS, XRD, DSC, etc.).
- Working knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality standards.
- Experience with product life‑cycle systems.
- Background in chemical process scale‑up or pilot‑scale materials development.
- Strong analytical and research skills with emphasis on applied materials, adhesives, and manufacturing processes.
