Special Education Teacher - Contract

Location: Columbia Heights, MN

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in teaching, or a related field working with children.

• Experience working in a multi-cultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.

• Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports.

• Effective analysis skills to evaluate needs and issues objectively.

• Clear and concise communication skills, both orally and in writing.

• Excellent relationship-building skills with children, students, parents, staff, administration, and the general public.

• Minnesota Teaching license.

• Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of special education and specialty areas.

• Thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures.

Job Description:

• Prepare and provide training and instruction to students with disabilities.

• Motivate students to develop skills in assigned subject matters.

• Monitor progress in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

• Assess and evaluate the needs of students; maintain appropriate records; prepare progress reports.

• Translate lesson plans into learning experiences based on the needs and abilities of students.

• Provide positive role models to students and demonstrate appropriate behavior and socialization skills.

• Assist with the formulation and implementation of behavior modification programs.

• Participate in various groups, meetings, and committees.

• Facilitate communication between various groups on behalf of the client or student.
