Position TitleLibrary Assistant
FLSA:
Non‑Exempt. Work Type: FT/PT Part Time, Hours Per Week 9 to 25 as needed.
Work Schedule (as needed within library hours): M‑Th 8 am to 11 pm, F 8 am to 5 pm, Sa/Su 1 pm to 5 pm.
Position Salary Range: $17.00/hour.
SummaryThe Faculty Development & Learning Innovation team is seeking a Library Assistant to join our team at the HCC Library. This role involves providing exceptional customer service to all users, upholding, and administering library and college policies, and working under the direction of the Circulation and Access Services Manager. The goal is to deliver an optimal library experience for users. This is an on‑campus/non‑telework position.
EssentialRole Responsibilities Circulation and User Services
- Assist users with checking‑in, checking‑out, and placing holds for library materials
- Manage fines and fees accurately
- Support the usage and reservation of study rooms
- Monitor noise levels and guide users to appropriate areas
- Utilize the library's catalog and databases to locate and retrieve books and resources
- Shelve and edge material
- Provide basic computer and technology assistance for printing, scanning, copying, saving, downloading, and uploading
- Answer user questions and direct them to Library and college campus resources/services
- Resolve issues as they arise and communicate effectively with other staff and supervisors
- Support colleagues and supervisors with various tasks
- Perform opening and closing procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Minimum
Education Required:
High School or equivalent - Experience
Required:

Preferred Experience:

- 1‑year customer service
- Previous work experience in a library setting, preferred

- Strong fine motor skills for operating computer terminals
- Proficient in answering phone calls professionally and efficiently
- Flexible availability to work during library hours, including weekends
