Job Description & How to Apply Below

Pennoni is seeking a Senior Licensed Land Surveyor to support and lead surveying operations from our Columbia, Maryland office. This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for an experienced survey professional who can manage projects and personnel while providing technical oversight across boundary, land title, topographic, and construction surveying assignments. The successful candidate will coordinate field resources, prepare project estimates and proposals, maintain strong client relationships, and help grow the survey practice within the Maryland market.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage survey and survey-mapping projects with a focus on safety, quality, profitability, operational excellence, and timely delivery.
  • Provide professional oversight for boundary surveys, land title surveys, topographic surveys, construction stakeout, construction layouts, and survey support for engineering projects.
  • Supervise and coordinate survey personnel, including scheduling field crews, assigning resources, coordinating equipment, and monitoring project deadlines.
  • Prepare scopes of work, project estimates, fee proposals, and other technical or business-development materials.
  • Review survey data, plans, calculations, deliverables, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance with applicable professional standards.
  • Apply modern surveying methods and technologies, including GPS, robotic total stations, CADD, GIS, and related field and office systems.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, project teams, field personnel, regulatory stakeholders, and other internal disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain client and public relationships while identifying opportunities to expand Pennoni’s survey services within the Maryland market.
  • Visit project sites and perform field-related responsibilities as needed.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned based on project and business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least eight years of professional experience in field surveying, land surveying, or a closely related area.
  • Current Maryland Professional Land Surveyor license.
  • Demonstrated experience managing survey projects and coordinating or supervising personnel.
  • Well-rounded experience with boundary surveys, land title surveys, topographic surveys, and construction surveying. Candidates whose experience is limited primarily to construction stakeout may not have the breadth required for this role.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to job sites as needed.
  • Ability to satisfy background-screening requirements associated with certain client sites, federal properties, and railroad rights-of-way.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading a survey team or serving as the professional responsible for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leica Geosystems hardware and software, high-definition laser scanning technologies, Micro Station, or Bentley Open Roads.
  • Experience developing client relationships and supporting business-development or market-growth initiatives.
