Licensed Practical Nurse General SummaryThe Charge Nurse is an RN/LPN who is responsible for the overall nursing care and service on his/her shift, including the accurate and timely administration of medications, treatments, documentation, and emergency calls, as indicated. All job duties are performed in accordance with established standards as described in the Quality Assurance Manual for the department.
PrimaryJob Duties
- Supervises direct care of residents and nursing personnel on his/her shift.
- Administers direct care as necessary.
- Gives and receives shift reports.
- Rounds twice a shift to assure proper care is rendered in a safe and clean environment.
- Keeps physicians and families aware of changes in the resident’s condition.
- Assists in developing comprehensive care plans.
- Maintains the self‑respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.
- Maintains accurate documentation of all care rendered.
- Responds to resident emergency call system.
- Interfaces with other disciplines to assure continuity of care and services.
- Receives, transcribes and checks physician orders in the past 48 hours.
- Accompanies physicians when making rounds.
- Encourages restorative care in order to obtain maximum resident independence.
- Participates in family/resident counseling as necessary.
- Assists DOHS with GNA employee evaluations.
- Assists with EMR education and checks EMR documentation from GNA’s twice a shift.

- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Licensed Practical Nurse with a current license in Maryland.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families and staff; must use prudent judgment and work well under pressure. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work well independently.
- Ability to document care given accurately.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and perform simple arithmetic.
- Wears appropriate non‑slip footwear.
May be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and/or HBV. Must be able to transport residents via wheelchair or shower chair, pushing up to 150 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to transfer, lift, turn and position a resident weighing up to 125 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, stand, and walk for up to 90% of the work day.
May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior. Must be able to reach up to a level of six feet. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally.
Salary Range: $24/hr – $28/hr prn: $28.50 – $29/hr.
