Lead Electronic Security Technician – Columbia, MD
Position SummaryA Lead Electronic Security Technician has a strong technical background and is skilled in the most current installation, testing, termination, and maintenance procedures for electronic security systems devices, access control devices, intrusion detection, perimeter fencing, automated gate, and CCTV systems at commercial and/or government facilities. A Lead Electronic Security Technician must possess leadership and supervisory skills, and the ability to manage labor, material, and perform administrative functions is essential.
PositionResponsibilities
- Maintains an awareness and understanding of the most current installation, testing, and termination procedures for various components of electronic security systems, access control devices, and CCTV systems;
- Installs, tests, maintains, and upgrades electronic security systems, access control devices, and CCTV systems, to include both equipment and infrastructure;
- Assists in and is responsible for the successful completion of all assigned projects within the scope of their work area;
- Familiar with and cares for the various types of materials and tools needed to complete tasks;
- Recognizes and provides immediate solutions for onsite changes in system integrations in the construction of buildings from start to closure;
- Reads building, electrical, and other blueprints, as required;
- Follows proper schematic wiring diagrams and hook‑up procedures;
- Works with other Technicians to run wire and install peripheral devices in accordance with instructions of devices;
- Interacts with customers and vendors in a positive, timely, and professional manner;
- Provides first level quality assurance and supervision; and
- Supervises and leads teams to complete project requirements.
Compliance with Virginia DCJS and MD State Police standards is required.
Essential Skills and Experience- At least five years of experience in the electronic security systems industry with a working knowledge of access control, CCTV, and intrusion detection;
- Strong familiarity with Relay Logic and Applied Theory and experience in IP surveillance is preferred;
- Basic electrical knowledge and ability to understand both verbal and written instruction;
- Familiar with hand and power tools to accomplish assigned tasks and work independently or as part of a team;
- Strong interpersonal skills, communication, and customer service skills a must;
- Very strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to work with crews and independently with little or no supervision are required;
- Experience and certification in products such as Avigilon, Axis, Lenel, AMAG, Kantech, Hirsch, DMP, and American Dynamics is a definite plus;
- Experience with structured cable systems including conduit, cable trays, racks, patch panels, cable management systems, outlets, jacks, and cable support systems;
- Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cable terms and concepts, including FDDI, Ethernet, installation codes, practices and procedures, including EIA/TIA standards, NEC, BICSI and OSHA standards;
- Ability to prioritize and coordinate labor, material, subcontractors, rental and testing equipment while meeting project deadlines and milestones;
- Knowledge of both premise and OSP environments, ability to work in confined spaces, bucket trucks up to 30', and work overtime, weekends, after hours and travel as needed;
- Must be able to work 24/7 service calls as required;
- Background check, government clearance, clean driving record, drug screening required; U. S. citizenship may also be required;
- Current registration with Maryland State Police and Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as a Lead Electronic Security Technician is required.
High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. Certifications in Lenel, Avigilon, AMAG, Hirsch, Kantech, Axis, American Dynamics, or any other commercial‑leading security products are a definite plus.
