Trueline, a long-established American manufacturer of pipe fittings and flow-control products, is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead all engineering at its high-volume foundry and manufacturing campus. You’ll own engineering across a century-old, 500-ton-per-day electric melt foundry, a machine shop, and paint, zinc, and assembly operations. You’ll lead a team of 13 direct reports and manage $20-22 million in annual capital projects, for a base salary of $230,000-$240,000+ plus a 25% bonus target.
The plant is growing and investing heavily in automation, new molding and melt technologies, and an Industry 4.0 integrated factory. The right person is a seasoned foundry engineering leader and a true team player who wants to modernize a historic operation alongside a strong, collaborative team.
What You’ll Do as the Vice President of Engineering:
- Develop and execute the engineering strategy to drive operational excellence and long-term growth across the entire foundry and manufacturing campus
- Lead and develop a team of 13 direct reports across engineering, tooling, process, and metallurgical functions
- Establish engineering standards, best practices, and technical direction for the site
- Optimize melting, molding, core-making, pouring, heat-treating, and finishing operations to improve yield, reduce scrap, and increase throughput
- Support engineering for the machine shop, paint, zinc, and assembly operations
- Lead the plant’s automation roadmap and its move toward an Industry 4.0 integrated factory
- Evaluate and introduce new molding and melt technologies, robotics, and automation
- Identify, scope, and manage $20-22 million in annual capital projects, including budgets, timelines, vendor relationships, and ROI analysis
- Direct the design and development of gating systems, risers, patterns, fixtures, and tooling
- Lead new product introductions from concept through production
- Review and approve engineering drawings, models, solidification simulations, and casting feasibility analyses
- Champion Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement, using SPC, DOE, and root-cause analysis to solve problems for good
- Ensure engineering documentation and process controls meet ISO standards, and support compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams on daily production, equipment reliability, and customer technical needs
Must-Haves as the Vice President of Engineering:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Metallurgical, or a related engineering discipline
- 10+ years of engineering experience in heavy industrial manufacturing, in a closely similar engineering leadership role
- Foundry engineering leadership experience in a high-volume operation
- 5+ years of progressive leadership managing technical teams
- Hands-on experience leading automation initiatives in a manufacturing environment
- Strong command of casting processes, metallurgy, heat treatment, and material properties
- Experience leading multimillion-dollar capital project portfolios
- Proficiency with Lean, Six Sigma, CI methods, and data-driven problem solving
- A collaborative, team-first leadership style and strong cross-functional communication skills
- Willingness to relocate to the Columbia, PA area, with relocation support provided
Nice-to-Haves as the Vice President of Engineering:
- Electric melt experience
- Experience implementing new molding and melt technologies
- Industry 4.0, smart factory, or connected manufacturing implementation experience
