Our client is a growing organization in the Columbia, SC area seeking a Senior GL Accountant who thrives on ownership, technical accounting, and process improvement. This role goes beyond routine close responsibilities—you’ll have the opportunity to partner across Finance and Operations, draft technical GAAP memos, and build stronger controls as the business scales. Essential Duties & Functions

• Lead the monthly and quarterly close, including preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals, and reserves
• Prepare and review complex reconciliations across areas such as inventory, revenue, deferreds, leases, payroll/benefit liabilities, and intercompany accounts
• Draft and present GAAP technical accounting position papers (e.g., revenue recognition, capitalization, leases, reserves, contingencies) to leadership
• Serve as primary contact for external auditors, owning audit PBC lists, resolving findings, and ensuring audit readiness
• Develop and document standard operating procedures, desk procedures, and internal controls using a risk-based approach
• Partner with other cross-functional teams to improve data flows and reduce manual processes
• Identify and implement process improvements to shorten close timelines and improve reporting accuracy

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience with proven ownership of the full close cycle
• Demonstrated experience drafting GAAP position papers and implementing conclusions
• Strong ERP proficiency (Net Suite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, or similar)
• Advanced Excel skills, with comfort handling large data reconciliations and variance analysis
• Evidence of process improvements, such as reducing close cycles or automating reconciliations

Preferred (Not Required):

• CPA (active, inactive, or parts passed)
• Public accounting or large-company background
• Net Suite experience; exposure to multi-entity and multi-state payroll/benefit accounting
• Inventory/COGS and revenue recognition experience in both product and services environments
