Traveling Superintendent at Miller Valentine Construction

Purpose:

Supervises the field construction of a project, including its organization, planning, and scheduling, to complete work on time, within budget, and to specified quality.

Position Duties
  • Primary liaison with owners, architects, and engineers for the day‑to‑day construction activities.
  • Develop and implement overall project work schedules, identifying the critical path and expediting scheduled critical materials and equipment.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop all MVCC field staff, including input on performance appraisals.
  • Develop and manage the overall site safety program and ensure subcontractor compliance with MVCC standards and all applicable safety codes.
  • Make decisions related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control, and trade employee staffing levels.
  • Oversee work among all trades to promote and coordinate project operations, resolving local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment, schedule, and other matters.
  • Manage labor relations with subcontractors and MVCC trade staff.

    Implement mock‑ups and associated testing, review and approval.
  • Ensure all necessary permits and insurance are in place and current for the term of the project; act as liaison to inspection agencies.
  • Act as Storm Water Compliance Coordinator (SCC) in accordance with MVCC’s Storm Water Compliance Program.
  • Manage the General Conditions and General Requirements to maintain the budget.
  • Manage the billing process related to Work‑In‑Place (WIP), overseeing the monthly estimate of work completed, payrolls, material invoices and subcontractor payment applications.
  • Ensure work is installed in compliance with and conforms to the approved contract documents.

Qualifications & Experience
  • ~4–7 years of internal or external experience in a similar role or education equivalent; specialized expertise in multiple systems, processes, and market sectors.
  • 4‑year degree in Engineering, Construction, or Architecture from an accredited college or university (or related degrees with construction coursework).
  • Proficient in complex systems, processes, and market sectors; oversees work execution of varying size and complexity, mentors and trains others, manages cross‑functional teams.
  • Thorough knowledge of general and subcontract documents, drawings, specifications, construction means, methods, materials, line and grade, and survey methods.
  • Knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures.
  • Ability to implement leading‑edge technologies such as Lean to benefit the project.
  • Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient knowledge of Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, estimating, and project management using cost‑accounting software (Viewpoint preferred) and Procore.
  • Capable of training and advising others effectively.
  • Quick to grasp new systems, processes, and market sectors.
  • Effective communication with diverse teams and audiences through written reports, business correspondence, and presentations.
  • Proficiency in numerical calculations, including discounts, percentages, and basic algebraic concepts.
  • Ability to analyze problems, gather data, and make informed decisions based on factual evidence while interpreting technical instructions.
