Overview
Architecture Design Associate I role at Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) in Columbia, SC. The Design Associate provides support to the lead architect in the design, selection, coordination, and detailing of architectural materials and systems.
GMC is a large, privately held architecture and engineering firm recognized for design excellence. We have multiple offices and work across the Southeast. This role supports the Georgia Architecture Studio and related projects.
Responsibilities- Evokes a self-starter mentality
- Demonstrates creativity with a strong desire to learn the technical portion of construction documents, paired with client relations
- Aquires basic knowledge and develops skills in a specific practice area
- Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks
- Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work
- Understands professional and ethical responsibilities
- Performs basic design tasks
- Performs code and product research
- Visits sites to prepare as-built drawings of existing buildings
- Prepares construction document drawings in Revit
- Assists on tasks such as preparation of permit applications and project manuals
- Collects data, gathers information, and performs standard computations and analyses
- Coordinates with engineering consultants on assigned projects
- Prepares meeting agendas and documents meeting notes
- Responds to contractors RFIs and communications during construction
- Reviews shop drawings for conformance with construction documents
- Occasional site visits during construction to monitor progress
- Performs other tasks as needed by Supervisor
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) from an accredited architectural program
- Previous architectural experience preferred
- Must be able to perform work-related travel and have a valid driver’s license
- Must be local to GMC office
