. This key role supports the development, analysis, and oversight of the University’s budget, ensuring responsible resource allocation and sound financial planning. Related Minimum Required
Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4 or more years of job‑related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job‑related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in a business related field, CPA or 5 years related experience preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / AbilitiesThe Budget Analyst will have strong analytical skills, integrity, sound judgment and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Budget work demands the production of large volumes of high‑quality work in relatively short time periods. The ability to manage the successful completion of multiple concurrent projects along with day‑to‑day tasks is essential. A high level of confidentiality is required as are strong organizational skills.
The ability to work as a strong team player is expected.
- Budget Development and Monitoring
Collaborate with unit contacts and university leaders to assist in the preparation of the annual budget, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, and alignment with institutional goals. Monitor departmental expenditures against budget allocations, identify discrepancies, and work with the departments to implement corrective actions as needed. - Financial Analysis and Forecasting
Conduct in‑depth financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis and forecasting to provide insights and recommendations for optimizing budgetary decisions. Assist in long‑term financial planning by participating in the development of multi‑year budget projections and financial models. - Reporting and Data Management
Prepare comprehensive financial reports, summaries, and presentations for university leadership, providing clear and actionable information on financial status and trends. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date financial data, utilizing budgeting software and spreadsheets to facilitate data analysis and reporting. - Compliance and Cost Efficiency
Ensure compliance with university policies, state regulations and federal guidelines related to budgeting and financial management. Identify cost‑saving opportunities for assigned units and recommend strategies for optimizing resource allocation and improving operational efficiency. - Communication
Collaborate with various university departments and stakeholders to provide budgetary guidance, answer inquiries and offer financial insights. - Ad Hoc Projects
Contribute to special projects and process improvements within the central Budget Office.
