Heavy Equipment Technician

Transdev North America in Richland, SC is seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment. The role requires expertise in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our fleet.

• Competitive compensation: $18.00 – $30.00 per hour
• $0.25 per hour for each ASE certification you possess or obtain
• Vacation: minimum 2 weeks
• Sick days: 5 days
• Holidays: 12 days (8 standard, 4 floating)

• Company‑paid ASE testing, training materials, and tool reimbursement

• Perform vehicle maintenance to Transdev standards
• Diagnose all phases of vehicle and equipment repair and select appropriate action for repairs
• Ensure work orders are completed accurately
• Evaluate completed work prior to release, seeking supervisor approval where required
• Ensure safe use of power and hand‑held tools
• Perform road calls and emergency services as necessary
• Move vehicles safely between job and work area
• Communicate professionally with customers, team members, and supervisors
• Actively participate in safety or educational training as required
• Maintain continuous ASE re‑certification to remain in job classification

• High school diploma or GED equivalent; technical training preferred
• Valid driver’s license
• ASE certifications preferred; must obtain 2 ASEs within 6 months of employment
• Experience with diagnostic computers, heavy line equipment repairs, and heavy truck equipment
• Experience monitoring and meeting preventive maintenance schedules and operating shop repair equipment
• Appropriate mechanic’s tool set
• Excellent communication skills
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable; DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 applies

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; 100% of the job performed outside and may be remote
• Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk long distances on sloped or uneven ground
• Push and pull objects and lift materials up to 50 lbs (with or without assistance); occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to retrieve items stored at ground level
• Withstand exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise

• Must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen
