Job Purpose and Summary
Technicians support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within the store. They are often the first point of contact for patients and customers and help ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately while providing caring service that exceeds expectations. Technicians follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices and clear communication, contributing to a safe, inclusive culture where everyone feels valued.
Upon hire, Technicians complete a rigorous training program and must satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements per the State Board of Pharmacy. Until requirements are met, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.
Responsibilities
- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to assist Pharmacists in managing patient health.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off).
- Contribute to positive patient experiences with empathy and care; assist with immunizations and other services as appropriate; resolve or escalate patient issues.
- Participate in basic inventory activities (e.g., inventory put-away, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks).
- Support a high-performing team, seek growth opportunities, and expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; may travel to stores within the market to meet business needs.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety, privacy and security.
- Deliver additional patient health care services where allowed by law and supported by training and certification (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing).
Immunization Support (where permissible)
- Complete licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status to assist with vaccines.
- Educate patients about vaccines and refer questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty.
- Monitor for adverse reactions and report per public health requirements.
- Review and collect patient information and track documentation for applicable patients.
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
- Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy (e.g., age, education, licensure/certification).
- If no minimum age is specified by the state board, candidate must be at least 16 years old.
- If no minimum educational requirement is specified by the state board, candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program.
- State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus with the ability to concentrate on tasks and pivot as needed to meet patient and business needs.
- Customer service and team orientation: actively help people in a friendly manner and respond to patient reactions appropriately.
- Communication skills: verbal and written interaction with patients and colleagues; active listening.
- Mathematical reasoning for prescription calculations (e.g., days’ supply, bottle counts).
- Problem resolution: identify and address challenging patient or colleague interactions.
- Physical demands including mobility, lifting, reaching, fingering, and close visual acuity; ability to lift up to 20 lbs as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician or similar setting (pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service).
- Willingness to work across the market in various locations as needed.

Pay Range The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $16.00 - $24.00 per hour. The actual offer depends on experience, education, geography, and other factors.
