Responsibilities- Examine the maintenance work of repairs, rebuilds or overhauls of fire‑control and optics equipment and supporting items.
- Diagnose the source of trouble and determine the extent of repairs required.
- Inspect work in progress; inspect and test the final product and approve the repairs.
- Perform major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non‑standard fire‑control/optics items.
- Read and understand blueprint drawings and work from those drawings.
- Perform as primary instructor on most standard and non‑standard fire‑control systems.
- Prepare reports, information papers and other documents.
- Perform field maintenance on laser range finders, ballistic computers, laser observation devices, laser designators, thermal imaging systems, periscopes, telescopes, auxiliary sights, aiming circles, image‑transfer assemblies, quadrants, mount assemblies, fire‑control support equipment, night‑vision devices, and test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
- Provide technical guidance on how to diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in fire‑control systems and related equipment at the field‑maintenance level.
- Determine the nature and extent of repairs required; disassemble and examine parts and assemblies for serviceability; replace parts and assemblies as required.
- Determine serviceability of parts; exercise initiative to maintain productive progress and accept responsibility for the results.
- Diagnose and determine remedies for failures commonly encountered in the repair of fire‑control equipment with little or no supervision, using a variety of diagnostic techniques and practices.
- Perform initial, in‑process and final inspections.
- Perform ECOD and ACOD inspections and verify condition codes.
- Determine root causes of non‑conformances, take corrective action and provide feedback on systemic problems.
- Perform routine inspections on safety and environmental controls and provide reports on safety, quality, and armament‑related issues.
- Maintain and repair laser range finders, ballistic computers, laser observation devices, laser designators, thermal imaging systems, periscopes, telescopes, auxiliary sights, aiming circles, image‑transfer assemblies, quadrants, mount assemblies, fire‑control support equipment, night‑vision devices.
- Standard office equipment and computer applications.
- Various machine tools and measuring instruments.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Steel‑toe shoes are required.
- Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published company work rules.
- Work is generally conducted in a shop environment; duties may involve the outdoors with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
- Work requires prolonged standing at a maintenance table and periodic use of a solvent‑parts cleaning machine.
- Dirt, dust, grease and oils are always present.
- Exposure to chemicals that may burn and irritate the skin and eyes if PPE is not worn; failure to follow safety procedures could result in cuts, bruises, shocks and strains.
- Must comply with OSHA, EPA, installation fire prevention regulations and published company work rules.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Frequent exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions may affect the respiratory system or skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
