Job SummaryThe Tooling Coordinator is responsible for providing tooling, fixturing, and some material handling solutions (i.e., coordination, repairs, modifications, purchase, inspection, design, manufacture, etc.) for the Columbus Engine Center (CEC) Operations. This is a hands‑on position that requires mechanical skills and an above‑average knowledge of tools, tooling systems, interfaces, supply chain solutions, and preventative maintenance.
Shift2nd Shift position:
Monday – Thursday 3:30 pm – 2 am
- Expedite tooling repair actions (i.e., order detailed parts, carry out local repairs, coordinate repairs with outsourced vendors, etc.)
- Maintain tooling inventory records and systems.
- Coordinate receiving inspections with Engineering/Quality staff for new and locally manufactured tooling.
- Monitor all hand tooling requirements including backstock and replenishment.
- Monitor shop perishable requirements (cleaner, penetrants, work bolts, shop towels, absorbents, and materials requested by Operations).
- Coordinate with EH&S and Engineering for special testing and inspection of tools as required and support tooling requirements and modifications in support of Process Reviews.
- Close on and escalate as necessary all critical tooling issues and impacts.
- Collaborate with engineering on tool equivalency requirements ensuring 100% compliance.
- Record and retain broken tool reports and perform broken tool exchanges.
- Maintain 6S level of standards across all tooling work areas and storage cells.
- Track and secure all tooling shipments and receipts, including loaned and borrowed assets.
- Coordinate with Tooling Support Services for technical information, requirements, and modification priorities.
- Support Tooling Team off‑shift coverage rotation and urgent call‑ins.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of experience in proper tool selection, tool use, and repair.
- At least 3 years of machinist experience.
- Ability to interpret basic tooling drawings.
- Ability to troubleshoot tooling problems and determine appropriate course of action.
- Knowledge of the following technical documents:
Illustrated Tool and Equipment Manual, Support Equipment Numerical Index, Engine Manual, Standard Practice Manual, and Repair Station Procedures for tooling. - Experience using Microsoft Office and SAP.
