Position
Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties to enable them to make a contribution to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development.
- Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
- Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
- Assist professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
- Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
- Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
- Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and keep students on task.
- Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising lunch programs, bus duty, study hall, and other related activities.
- Accompany students on field trips for supervision as needed.
- Construct, copy, distribute, and use educational materials as needed.
- Assist teachers with parent contact as requested to foster effective parent involvement in student education.
- Assist students with disabilities in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion and achievement of IEP objectives.
- Participate in IEP processes and serve as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.
- Assist students with activities of daily living as needed to maximize participation in school or learning activities.
- Follow all applicable safety rules and procedures governing assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
- May assist in the training of other teaching assistants.
- Assist counseling or building administration, as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Two years of work experience with children or a closely related position (preferred).
- High school diploma required;
Associate’s degree or certificate in a related field preferred. - Pass a Criminal History Background Check required.
- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office).
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form and maintain confidentiality of information.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and to establish supportive relationships with students with special needs.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Less than 12 months; 5.9 hours per day / 29.5 hours per week;
Grade 5 on Classified Staff Salary Matrix. Other conditions as listed in the Classified Staff Handbook. Starting hourly rate placement: $16.51-$17.81 based on experience. An additional $1 per hour will be paid from referendum funds.
