Position Summary
This role requires a strong background in electrical and mechanical engineering, software development, and hands‑on experience with hardware and programming. Utilize skills and experience in the area of Electro/Mechanical Controls Engineering to lead projects aimed at maintaining and improving Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. Perform on‑going technical support to the Operating and Maintenance teams, focusing on application of engineering principles and industry best practices.
Must possess a strong understanding of both electrical and mechanical engineering principles. Design, build, and maintain automated systems and machines by integrating electrical, mechanical, and software components. Develop control logic for PLCs, design electrical hardware and systems, and program embedded systems to ensure complex machinery and automated processes function correctly.
- Required Experience:
- 2-5 Years of experience in similar roles
- Advanced Microsoft Office experience required
- ERP Experience desired
- PLC Systems and Programming (Allen‑Bradley, Control Logix)
- 3-5 Years of Variable Frequency Drive Experience programming and troubleshooting (Allen‑Bradley, Nidec)
- Plant Electrical Communication Systems (Ethernet IP, Control Net) HMI programming (Factory Talk View/Wonderware)
- Power Distribution and Control
- National Electric Code
- Planned Maintenance
- Solid Troubleshooting methods and experience
- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Automation and Control Engineering
- Preferred Experience: Industry experience preferred in the paper roll industry providing pressure‑sensitive materials, labels, and adhesives.
- Support manufacturing to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost objectives for the facility.
- Participate in safety incident investigations and carryout the implementation of corrective actions.
- Partner with operations and process engineering to identify opportunities to implement new technologies that error‑proof manufacturing processes, reduce variation, or increase throughput.
- Contribute to improving operations as a cross‑functional team member in Continuous Improvement projects and kaizen events.
- Assist maintenance team in troubleshooting and resolution of electrical / programming related equipment issues.
- Proactively investigate the daily electrical controls functionality by monitoring Trends data and on‑floor observation of machine uptime and work with the coater process engineer to make sure all corrective actions and documentation takes place to avoid downtime.
- Lead electrical / programming related capital projects from concept to completion. Be able to successfully identify, develop, justify, plan, implement, and transition projects to operations. Select and implement electrical hardware, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and human‑machine interfaces (HMIs), to control machinery.
- Monitor and manage electrical component obsolescence. Develop and execute plans based on part availability and risk to upgrade components, drives, and software.
- Design and engineer machine and equipment modifications and upgrades with precision and accuracy, and without unreasonable interruptions to manufacturing.
- Assist in the development and support of an effective Planned Maintenance Program, through creation of recurring inspections, PM tasks, and work instructions, focusing on the key electrical systems and components.
- Maintain and modify all key production machine programming systems and software (RSLogix, Wonderware, Various drive programming packages). Interface with OEM and support contractors to ensure proper version control.
- Assist Facility maintenance with the on‑going operation and maintenance of general plant utilities and services.
- Maintain orderly project files and continuously update equipment documentation.
