OverviewThe Team Leader oversees, monitors, and coordinates production team activities, giving importance to individual members and overall team’s achievement of established goals. Ensures the team’s goal aligns with and represents the overall company’s directive. Acts as a liaison between team members and the rest of the organization. Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Performs a variety of tasks. Typically reports to a manager or supervisor and assumes supervisory duties in their absence. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
- Maintain time and production records
- Responsible for the JD Edwards system
- Read standards
- Run lines as needed
- Assist with investigating quality issues (5-Why)
- Check under machine for parts or components
- Check all emergency stop buttons
- Check the set‑up
- Assigned work area kept clean and orderly every workday
- Recognize and comply with all safety rules
- Work overtime as requested by supervisor or scheduled
- Maintain all oil and coolant levels
- Remove chips from clipgroove machine
- Clean out chips from all lathes
- Empty chip hoppers and scrap
- Complete recuts and repairs
- Floors swept and mopped (within reason)
- Machines wiped down (within reason)
- Ensure machines running at shift change
- Paperwork completed (including downtime)
- Any other duties assigned by manager
- Previous experience with supervision, set‑up or training preferred
- 2-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with gauging instruments
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Good problem‑solving skills
- Knowledge of QS9000 standards
- Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations
- High School Diploma
- Stamina and Endurance – Ability to work long shifts, often standing for extended periods; moving between different areas of the production floor, ensuring smooth operations.
- Manual Dexterity – May need to use hand tools or operate machinery; ability to handle delicate or complex components carefully.
- Vision and Attention to Detail – Good vision (with or without corrective lenses) for inspecting products, machinery, and processes; detecting defects or inconsistencies in production.
- Physical Strength and Mobility – Ability to lift or move heavy items; quick and efficient movement to monitor production processes and resolve issues.
- Safety Awareness and Compliance – Understanding and adhering to safety protocols; ensuring the team uses PPE and follows safe operating procedures.
- Comfort in Industrial Environments – Will often work in noisy, high‑energy environments, wearing protective gear (e.g., safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, ear protection); comfortable working in hot, cold, or hazardous environments when necessary.
- Problem‑Solving and Critical Thinking – Ability to troubleshoot issues quickly, whether related to machinery, workflow, or team dynamics.
- Quick Decision‑Making – Particularly in high‑pressure situations to minimize downtime or defects.
- Leadership and Communication Skills – Strong leadership to motivate, guide, and supervise team members; clear and effective communication; conflict resolution skills.
- Attention to Quality and Detail – Ensuring products meet quality standards; maintaining focus on both the big picture and granular details.
- Time Management and Organization – Prioritizing tasks, managing multiple projects; ensuring deadlines and quotas are met.
