An HVAC superintendent is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems on construction or facility management projects. This includes managing project schedules and budgets, ensuring quality and safety, coordinating with contractors, and maintaining compliance with codes and regulations. The role requires strong leadership and communication skills, extensive technical knowledge of HVAC systems, and experience in commercial construction.

- Project management:
Oversee project timelines, budgets, and logistics for HVAC installations. - Team leadership:
Supervise and train HVAC technicians, set performance expectations, and manage personnel issues. - Coordination and communication:
Act as the primary point of contact between the client, general contractor, and internal teams. - Technical oversight:
Review project specifications, shop drawings, and submittals to ensure all technical requirements are met. - Safety and compliance:
Enforce safety regulations, ensure compliance with national, state, and local codes, and manage inspections. - Quality control:
Conduct quality walk-throughs, ensure proper installation methods are followed, and manage the commissioning and validation of systems. - Resource management:
Schedule and coordinate the delivery of materials, equipment, and subcontractors, and manage the inventory of tools and supplies.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience:
Extensive experience in the commercial HVAC and construction industry, with a minimum of 5 years often required. - Licensing and certifications:
Valid driver's license and relevant HVAC licenses (e.g., Journeyman) are often required. An OSHA 10 certification is also frequently requested. - Technical knowledge:
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, and in-depth knowledge of HVAC installation, repair, maintenance, and system design. - Leadership:
Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, resolve conflicts, and develop a high-performing workforce. - Problem-solving:
Excellent troubleshooting abilities to diagnose and resolve complex issues effectively. - Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
