The Columbus Family YMCA has served our community for 134 years. We have experienced much growth and change throughout those years. Our organization made a major change in 2015 when we moved into the brand new Columbus Wellness Center. Less than ten years later, the Columbus Community Hospital increased the activity space to more than 300,000 sq. feet when they opened the Columbus Fieldhouse in 2024.

There is no limit to the fun and adventure of our youth and family programming. The Assistant Youth Director will be essential in helping lead our community impact for years to come.

This position is packed with responsibility and challenge. Responsibilities will include, building new programs alongside our Youth Director, finding new ways to increase awareness and youth participation at our YMCA, creating experiences and memories for youth and their families, and so much more. The Assistant Youth Director will go the extra mile to ensure that the all details, big and small, are well cared for and delivered with zest and precision.

Key

deliverables for this position include:
  • Appropriate programs for all age groups throughout the year: day camp, after school programs, specialty youth programs, Jump Zone, and many more
  • Growing involvement – both participants and revenue of programs
  • Consistent activity necessary to be a voice of influence in the community for youth and families
Here are a sampling of the program responsibilities you would work with in this role:
  • Summer Day Camp
    -2 to 3 months
  • After School Program
  • Out of School Day Programs
  • Pre-school programming
  • Jump Zone
  • Weekend youth programs: school age, teens, and families
  • Specialty camps (school holidays, trips, etc.)
  • Special needs programming
What we require and expect:
  • Sufficient experience with Day Camps, After School Programs, and other youth and family programs to build solid programs from scratch as needed or make existing programs even better
  • Sufficient experience to confidently oversee and guide youth, volunteers, and staff
  • Dedication to the role: willing to put in hours as needed: 40-50 hours – this is not a typical 8-5 job.
    Will include evening and weekend hours
  • Knowledge and understanding essential to build positive memories and learning opportunities for a diverse group of youth
  • A passion for our mission (read our webpage); for the youth/families that you touch
  • High integrity coupled with a solid work history is essential
  • Confidence and comfort to initiate and sustain solid professional relationships with community, parents, our school partners, etc.
  • Organization and communication skills to be able to manage, balance and plan
  • College degree preferred
  • CDL bus drivers license required or able to obtain within six (6) months of hire; training assistance provided.
  • First aid and CPR certification within 30 days of hire
  • Bilingual (Spanish) additional benefit
