Motor Vehicle Inspector

1640 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus, Franklin County.
Hours Worked: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (working days and hours may vary).

- Free parking.
- Inspect motor vehicles—including motor homes, campers, school buses, church buses, self‑assembled vehicles, and salvage vehicles—to determine whether they are unsafe or improperly equipped, or that equipment is in proper adjustment or repair as required by law. This includes entering and exiting vehicles, maneuvering around bends, stoops, and utilizing a mechanic's "creeper" to crawl under the vehicle for visual inspection of mechanical components.
- Enter and retrieve information using numerous Ohio State Highway Patrol databases.
- Complete inspection forms and affix inspection decals to vehicles that pass.
- Operate state‑owned motor vehicle inspection vehicle to transport equipment used in motor vehicle inspection.
- Inform the owner or operator of repairs or adjustments that are necessary to place the vehicle in safe condition.
- Six months training or six months experience in automotive maintenance and repair or mechanical vehicle inspections.
- Six months experience utilizing a personal computer and associated business office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Formal education in arithmetic (addition & subtraction) and in reading, writing, and speaking common English vocabulary.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Equivalent to the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
- Must be able to use a computer or tablet within the job duties. Applicants must explain how they meet the required computer experience in their current or previous work history.
Full‑time position.
Hours:
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (working days and hours may vary).
Pay: $22.96 – $27.92 per hour.
