Head Counselor Camp

Assists with the planning, coordination and daily operation of outdoor summer day camps for children ages 5–12 with various outdoor themes. Supervises the activities of Camp Counselors and serves as the Head Camp Counselor over a specific nature camp.

• Assist the camp team with planning, coordination, and daily operation of summer outdoor camps.
• Direct activities of assigned counselors; provide leadership and ensure a high quality program.
• Maintain frequent open and honest communication with the Camp and Community Events Supervisor.
• Assist in the creation and development of camp programs and activities.
• Participate in camp-wide activities, staff meetings, training, and registration periods.
• Guide and direct assigned campers in a variety of activities, promoting environmental awareness and respect for the setting.
• Ensure the safety of campers at all times and keep camp areas clean.
• Adhere to all applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers, employees, visitors of Metro Parks, parents, and campers.
• Perform duties as required or assigned.

• High school graduate; some camp experience preferred.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, public relations, organizational and planning skills.
• Moderate computer and Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong problem identification, problem resolution, time management, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with co‑workers, supervisors, children, parents, and the general public; ability to prepare meaningful, concise reports and give presentations.
• Attendance required as part of a regular 40‑hour work week.
