Responsibilities
THIS ROLE IS 85% TRAVEL
What You’ll Do as a Construction Safety Specialist
- Work directly with project and crew leadership to ensure consistent use of safety systems, programs, and processes
- Engage crews to define processes that motivate teams toward shared goals
- Partner with Project Managers to develop project specific safety plans during mobilization and throughout the project lifecycle
- Trend safety data to identify and recommend targeted improvement strategies
- Collaborate with leadership to identify gaps and implement solutions
- Support hazard identification and control efforts with a high level of accuracy
- Conduct risk assessments, assist with incident investigations, and develop corrective actions
- Build processes that reduce and eliminate repeat incidents
- Audit job sites with a focus on behaviors and conditions that reflect best in class standards
- Support customer specific safety needs and expectations
- Assist leadership with developing and delivering safety training and toolbox talks
- Encourage and support proactive near miss reporting
- Assist with milestone recognition programs that highlight leading safety activities
- Promote enthusiasm for safety through innovative ideas and engagement tactics
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Affairs, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Three or more years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety with at least two years in construction; five years preferred
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations (NFPA, OSHA, EPA, ANSI)
- OSHA 510 and 500 preferred
- BCSP certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or STS C preferred
- Knowledge of Human Performance principles
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is an advantage
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in both office and outdoor field environments
- Self starter with strong interpersonal skills and a continuous improvement mindset

- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Physical Demands
Ability To
- Sit, stand, walk, reach, and perform repetitive keystrokes regularly
- Stoep, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb stairs, and lift or move up to 30 pounds
- Traverse and inspect job sites in all weather conditions
- Work extended periods both at a computer and in the field
Environmental Conditions
Regularly: outdoor field environment with varying weather. Noise level: moderate. Exposure: construction site hazards.
