Regional Director of Construction (Remote)

Affordable Housing Partners, Inc. ("AHP") is 100% owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc. AHP acquires low‑income housing and historic tax credits for Berkshire Hathaway. Since its inception in 2011, AHP has secured over $4.5 billion of tax credits for more than 400 properties across the United States and Puerto Rico, creating and renovating over 52,000 apartment homes.

Objectives

The Regional Director of Construction will oversee tax‑credit affordable multifamily housing projects as a representative of the Equity Partner. The portfolio includes senior, assisted & independent living, historic, rehab, and new construction assets. The role collaborates across departments and external partners to deliver projects on time and within budget, while evaluating potential developments for feasibility in design and budget.

Responsibilities
  • Review potential development underwriting, plans, and developers’ expertise to ensure accurate budgets and schedules.
  • Maintain a competent understanding of all state and local requirements and ensure partners’ adherence.
  • Perform due‑diligence of ALTA surveys, zoning, environmental reports, wetlands/flood zones, bonding & insurance, construction drawings, pay applications, change orders, third‑party inspections, and construction drawings (civil, site, architectural, structural, MEP).
  • Write, monitor, and track internal project status reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with equity general partners, developers, architects, engineers, consultants, general contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain systems that assist AHP employees with collecting, analyzing, and reporting construction data.
  • Manage developer relationships and interface with Acquisitions and Asset Management teams.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction management.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to use software such as MS Project, Excel, Prolog, Quickbase, Box, and Dropbox.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Problem‑solving skills and strong interpersonal judgment.
  • Ability to work remotely, self‑manage travel, and conduct on‑site inspections.
  • Experience with LIHTC tax‑credit affordable housing a plus.
  • Reporting to the VP of Construction.
