Responsibilities- Provide musical accompaniment for contemporary, African and/or ballet classes for majors in the Dance Department.
- May accompany elective classes as determined by Music Supervisor or Department Chair.
- This is an hourly‑paid position working a maximum of 10 hours per week.
- Having a strong sense of rhythm is a must and one must be flexible to change music to meet the needs of the instructor.
- It is important to be able to respond to movement by discerning meter, as well as accent, articulation, and nuance.
- Arrive promptly, having instruments set up before class starts, and have a positive attitude and respect.
- Extensive experience as an accompanist for contemporary, African and ballet classes.
- Expertise with a wide range of appropriate musical literature for dance classes.
- Ability to provide specialized musical needs as an accompanist for targeted dance classes.
- Read and improvise various musical styles.
- High School diploma or GED and 1 year of relevant experience.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
