Switchboard Operator
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a Switchboard Operator to serve as the primary contact at the Hospital Switchboard, acting as the Public Information Control Center on a 24‑hour basis.
Scope of PositionProvides directory assistance, overhead and digital paging, overhead public address announcements (including codes), screens patient information, identifies and obtains resource personnel for various departments, and trains new staff.
Position SummaryDelivers superior customer service by providing information to callers and directing calls to appropriate personnel. Processes internal and external calls through an integrated computer telephone system, initiates overhead paging, activates pagers, provides patient information, and facilitates emergency communication.
Minimum Requirements- High School diploma or GED; 0‑2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Available shifts:
Monday‑Friday 7:00‑3:30 p.m., 9:00‑5:30 p.m., or 11:00‑7:30 p.m.; rotating weekends and holidays as required. - One year of customer service or communications experience (1000 hours coursework or training).
- Six months of computer and peripheral equipment operation experience (600 hours).
- Three months of information research and analysis experience (300 hours).
- Additional qualifications:
optional 3‑month supervisory management experience (300 hours) and 3‑month interview experience; healthcare setting with multi‑line phone skills preferred.
