Overview

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seeks research scientists to join the Department of Emergency Medicine. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

The mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine is to provide innovative, efficient, safe, and compassionate patient care to patients presenting to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Emergency Departments and Advanced Urgent Cares; to be a leader in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows in emergency medical care;

to perform cutting-edge research and scholarly investigation to identify the causes, treatments, and prevention of emergency medical conditions; to promote transforming emergency medicine through innovation, faculty development, and excellence. We are seeking research scientists with expertise in emergency care. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our scientists to advance the research mission of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Faculty responsibilities are consistent with our tripartite mission, with focus on clinical research.
  • The research-scientist will work collaboratively with individuals within and outside the department to conduct research in emergency care.
  • Expectations include publications in peer-reviewed journals and pursuing NIH or other equivalent extramural funding.
  • The individual selected will have ample opportunities to contribute to training, research, and other scholarly pursuits.
  • Other duties include representing the program or Department by participating in committees, conferences, and professional meetings; and representing OSU at community speaking engagements.
  • The candidate is expected to perform clinical duties at OSUWMC emergency departments and advanced urgent cares as assigned, and to practice within established Medical Center policies and standards.
Requirements
  • MD, DO, and/or PhD, or foreign equivalent. Additional graduate-level research training (Masters or Doctorate) or post-doctoral training desirable.
  • Scientific expertise in emergency care or related field required.
  • Minimum experience:

    5 years. Substantial scientific publication record required. National recognition highly desirable.
  • NIH or equivalent extramural funding highly desirable.

Faculty Defined

Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) — Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms.

Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching and/or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) — Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), MD, DO or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) — Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor.
