Position OverviewThe Division of Epilepsy within the Department of Neurology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center seeks to hire an epileptologist who is board‑eligible or certified in Neurology and Epilepsy. Expertise is required in the specific area of acute, chronic and tertiary care of epilepsy patients, EEG interpretation, electrocorticography, and evaluation of patients for epilepsy surgery, including stereo EEG, intra and extraoperative functional brain mapping and neurostimulation (VNS/RNS/DBS), both in implantable devices and in managing the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
Applicants must have an M.D. or D.O. equivalent degree. There is dedicated clinical/administrative and nursing support.
The Department of Neurology at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) consists of 15 specialized divisions, 63 physicians, 5 psychologists, 12 dedicated research faculty, 24 residents, and 14 fellows. We deliver unparalleled subspecialty care across all neurology disciplines, with services spanning 7 state‑of‑the‑art ambulatory facilities and 3 hospitals. The department operates 27 groundbreaking multidisciplinary and personalized clinics, 3 comprehensive inpatient consultation services, an 18‑bed neurocritical care unit, a 30‑bed stroke ward, and an expanding teleneurology service partnering with 7 regional hospitals.
DivisionOverview
The Division of Epilepsy within the Department of Neurology is comprised of 7 physicians, 3 APPs, 3 epilepsy nurses, and 1‑2 CNP and/or epilepsy fellows each year. The Epilepsy Center encompasses all services for adults with epilepsy and seizures. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s comprehensive Epilepsy Center is accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) as a level 4 epilepsy center.
It provides state‑of‑the‑art diagnostic and treatment services to adults with seizures. Clinical services span outpatient clinics, EEG, EMU, and continuous video EEG monitoring across the OSUMC network. Subspecialty clinics include functional seizures, neurostimulation (RNS/DBS/VNS), women's epilepsy, and an epilepsy surgery clinic. A new 8‑10 bed adult EMU is slated to open next year equipped with the latest technology. Patients are also evaluated with PET and functional MRI.
Research conducted at the Epilepsy Center has contributed to the introduction of multiple new antiseizure medications, innovative approaches to presurgical evaluations and improving surgical outcomes for patients with drug‑resistant epilepsy.
Teaching responsibilities may include teaching of medical students, residents, fellows and trainees at all levels, both in clinical neurology and epileptology. Clinical responsibilities may include outpatient epilepsy clinics, EEG/ICU reading and EMU service.
