Position OverviewThe Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The Ohio State University is a growing practice. We are seeking a full-time clinical position as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist. The successful candidate will be responsible for patient care, research, and education in Comprehensive Ophthalmology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Department/Division OverviewThe Ohio State University prides itself on being one of the largest universities in the country. The Havener Eye Institute has its primary location in the Eye and Ear Institute building near campus. We have state-of-the-art facilities including on-site outpatient surgical centers to provide the highest quality of care with the latest surgical equipment and instrumentation.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Division Director and/or Department Chair determines work assignments. Each faculty member is expected to perform the full range of responsibilities in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. Clinical services are a component of faculty responsibility, with or without the presence of a trainee. There will be opportunities to pursue research, quality improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and education initiatives, or other activities consistent with the faculty assignment.
Faculty members are expected to teach, which may include clinical or didactic teaching for medical students, residents, fellows, undergraduate and graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. Service commitments include service at OSUWMC facilities and other clinical sites as assigned. Active participation in divisional, departmental, and college committee functions is expected. Participation in local, regional, or national professional organizations is also expected.
- Due to contractual agreements with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. citizenship is required for participation in this role.
- Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Ophthalmology by the time of appointment and be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio.
- Qualified candidates must hold an MD or DO degree and have completed an approved residency program in Ophthalmology.
- Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
- Knowledge and proficiency in medical and surgical management of Comprehensive Ophthalmology.
- Demonstrated interest in scholarship and discovery by evidence of basic and/or clinical applied research and publications.
- Commitment to residents, fellows, and medical students is required.

Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) — Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. They will have earned an MD, DO, PhD or other terminal degree. Clinical faculty are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching and/or research.
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) — Persons with titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. They focus on research, service, and teaching and may be involved in clinical care for MD/DOs.
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) — Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. They are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
