Assistant Professor of Nutrition & Microbiome Science
Join the Human Nutrition Program in the Department of Human Sciences at The Ohio State University for a 9‑month tenure‑track Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program at the intersection of nutrition and the gut microbiome, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and mentor students.
Position SummaryThe role requires 40% effort in research, 40% effort in inclusive teaching and student mentorship, and 20% effort in professional service. Areas of interest include microbiome‑mediated mechanisms of nutrition‑related disorders, multi‑omics approaches to personalized nutrition, and dietary modulation of gut microbial communities.
Research Responsibilities- Develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program focused on nutrition and microbiome science, establishing an independent line of scholarly inquiry and building strategic collaborations across disciplines.
- Effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses in human nutrition and closely related areas, engaging in curriculum development to advance undergraduate and graduate education.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students to advance scholarship and career‑readiness.
- Engage in academic service, both internally and externally, to advance the missions of the Human Nutrition Program, the Department and College, and the nutrition profession.
Required PhD in human nutrition or a related terminal degree with demonstrated expertise in diet‑gut health and human health interactions.
Desired Minimum of one year of postdoctoral experience; demonstrated ability or strong potential to secure extramural research funding; expertise in basic science, bioinformatics, gut health, and precision nutrition; interest or expertise in applying AI to pedagogy and/or scholarship aligned with Ohio State’s hiring initiative.
