Associate Professional Practice Professor
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at The Ohio State University invites applications for a Professional Practice Professor candidate at the Associate Professor or Professor level appointment in the area of Manufacturing Engineering. The position will start as early as Fall Semester of 2026.
Position OverviewThe ideal candidate will be able to teach a variety of topics in the Mechanical Engineering curriculum related to the professional practice of Manufacturing Engineering. The position is teaching focused; however, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform scholarly activity in a related area of interest, such as novel curriculum development, engineering education, or another research area consistent with their background and the professional practice of Manufacturing Engineering.

- Contribute to teaching and scholarly activities in the Mechanical and Integrated Systems Engineering programs related to the practice of Manufacturing Engineering.
- Participate in service to the university and the profession of engineering with a focus on education and professional practice related to Manufacturing Engineering.
- Teach and mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Develop and support a portfolio of impactful scholarly activities related to the practice of manufacturing Engineering.
- Education:
Doctorate (academic) or an equivalent combination of education and academic experience with a major in Mechanical or Integrated Systems Engineering or a closely related field. - Scholarly Impact:
Demonstrated history of impactful scholarly activity that has strong potential for continued success. Scholarly impact may be reflected in pedagogical or disciplinary excellence, or a combination of the two, with a focus on manufacturing engineering education and practice. - Leadership and
Collaboration:
Demonstrated track record of leadership and collaboration in a professional or academic environment related to manufacturing. - Advanced Teaching and Mentoring
Skills:
Experience developing and teaching courses or leading professional education programs related to manufacturing engineering; experience mentoring and supervising students or recent graduates in academic or professional settings. - Communication
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work constructively and collegially with both external and internal colleagues and interdisciplinary teams. - Independence and Initiative:
Ability to work independently and be a proactive self‑starter with strong project leadership skills. - Innovative Thinking:
Open to sharing ideas and continuously learning.
- Potential to be a conscientious university community member.
- Experience in the practice of manufacturing engineering, including automotive manufacturing or the automotive industry.
- Evidence of broad impact in the discipline of manufacturing education and research.
- Evidence of independent work or collaborations that have successfully obtained project funding related to manufacturing education and research.
- Experience in collaborative projects complementary to the department’s internal and external partners.
Appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, contingent on the candidate’s demonstration of experience and achievements aligned with the department’s appointment policies. Final offer will be based on qualifications and experience. Salary and startup packages are negotiated by the department chair and may vary. The position is expected to commence in Fall 2026.
