Rate of Pay: $23.03 to $28.92 per hour depending on experience and assignment.
Paid through the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio.
Title: PARAPROFESSIONALS
Reports to: Assigned Coordinator of Special Education and Teacher
Job Objectives: Performs a variety of classroom support and student personal care services as directed under the supervision of an assigned teacher.
Employment Status: Regular/Part-Time
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma.
- Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test).
- Documentation of a clear criminal record.
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
- Valid Ohio Department of Education Permit appropriate for the assignment.
- Self‑directed and able to learn required skills for the position.
- Ability to physically manage students with disabilities.
- Congenial disposition and strong diplomacy skills.
- Satisfactory pre‑employment and ongoing random drug test results.
- Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions.
- Appointment requires successful completion and periodic renewal of state‑mandated and service‑center training requirements (e.g., communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, and behavioral management).
- Preschool assignment requires accumulation of 45 hours of in‑service training (in fifteen‑hour annual increments); five hours annual in‑service thereafter.
- May require a valid driver’s license, access/availability of a reliable vehicle, and/or completion of van driver training.
- Check with the teacher for instructions.
- Work with small groups and/or individual students.
- Seek advice when expectations are unclear.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative guidelines and procedures.
- Promote a favorable image of the service center and support community/school partnerships.
- Help students with remedial and/or enrichment activities.
- Reinforce instructional objectives introduced by the teacher and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Offer help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance, avoiding being intrusive and solving concerns discreetly.
- Support an inclusive educational environment and help students with disabilities participate in appropriate peer group activities as directed.
- Assist with student mobility needs and help students use assistive/augmentative devices.
- Position students to take full advantage of each learning environment (e.g., line‑of‑sight, proximity to equipment, height of work surfaces).
- Follow prescribed medical plans and/or assist students with personal hygiene care (e.g., toileting, catheterization, feeding) as trained by a licensed health care professional.
- Remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substances during employment.
