Instructional Aide (Part-time) - Early Learning

OverviewThe Early Learning Center seeks dynamic applicants with a passion for supporting diverse learners, including students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, or have multiple disabilities. Candidates who do not meet Instructional Aide qualifications will be considered for the Instructional Aide Trainee classification.
Instructional Aide Duties And ResponsibilitiesAssists teacher in academic instruction in subjects such as math, science, reading, history, and expanded core curriculum for students ranging from preschool to post‑secondary.
Provides tutoring and conducts group or individual lessons, ensures student safety and well‑being, offers counseling for educational, emotional, or personal needs, and monitors behavior for compliance with school rules and IEPs.
Supports students in using adaptive technology, provides language enrichment or mediation for language deprivation support, assists during meals, facilitates transportation needs, may operate motor vehicle for escorting and transportation of students, and covers teacher’s absences following lesson plans.
Assists in preparation of lesson plans, organizes instructional materials, sets up classroom accommodations, takes attendance, grades assignments, and manages classroom technology and equipment.
Prepares lesson materials, operates equipment such as smart devices, intelligent devices (e.g., Braille note), TV, audio/visual devices, and software like Duxbury and Tactile View; edits audio/video, assists in visual lesson development, and maintains repair of equipment.
Participates in IEP meetings, collects data and logs, documents student progress, attends interdisciplinary conferences, and records attendance and supplies.
In the Alice Cogswell Center, prepares and carries out programming for children from birth to transition to preschool, maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment, and attends in‑service training sessions.
Instructional Aide Trainee Duties And ResponsibilitiesReceives training and mentoring to assist teacher in daily living skills and academic instruction for students from preschool to high school.
Provides counseling, monitors behavior, escorts students to and from classes, field trips, lunch, transportation, and residential facilities.
Performs clerical tasks such as maintaining attendance records, typing correspondence, distributing supplies, copying materials, and taking notes at meetings.
Prepares instructional media, operates technology, edits audio/video, assists in visual lesson development, and maintains equipment.
Attends in‑service training sessions, participates in meetings, case conferences, and student evaluations.
Instructional Aide QualificationsMust possess a current Educational Aide Permit issued by the State Board of Education with at least 12 months of active experience in teaching assistance.
Intermediate level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) required upon hire for positions at the Ohio School for the Deaf.
Instructional Aide Trainee QualificationsMust possess a current Educational Aide Permit issued by the State Board of Education.
Intermediate level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) required upon hire for positions at the Ohio School for the Deaf.
Training and Development Required To Remain In The ClassificationRenew the Educational Aide Permit per State Board of Education regulations.
Obtain CPR and first aid certification within one year from hire date. Provide appropriate van certification if transporting students.
For Ohio School for the Deaf positions, demonstrate Advanced level in SLPI within one year from hire. For Instructional Aide Trainee, employees who successfully obtain training and certifications during probationary period will be automatically reassigned to Instructional Aide.
Unusual Working ConditionsMay work evenings and/or weekends; may work outdoors exposed to weather; may be exposed to aggressive or unpredictable behavior, human waste, and infectious diseases.
