Extension Educator 4‑H Youth Development - Shelby County
Location:
Sidney, OH as part of the Shelby County Extension team.
- Provide guidance and leadership for 4‑H Youth Development programming targeted to local and area needs.
- Work with other Extension professionals and lead the Shelby County 4‑H program in its entirety.
- Implement and support a comprehensive volunteer system through identification, selection, orientation, training, utilization, recognition, and evaluation of adult and youth volunteers to support local 4‑H programming.
- Utilize appropriate methods, both formal and informal, of community assessment to identify educational needs and opportunities of the local community.
- Design, implement and teach educational programming, based on these needs, to groups and individuals comprised of adults and/or youth.
- Work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, and establish and maintain partnerships within the community that support the achievement of program goals.
- May also convene and facilitate community coalitions focused on those needs.
- Design and implement a high‑quality, annual overnight residential 4‑H camp and potentially day camping programming, including recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing oversight of camp counselors and adult volunteers.
- May be asked to support current 4‑H camp facilities, including serving on the camp board and/or camp corporation, participating with respective committees, providing service to the facility, and offering guidance to overall camp management.
- Work with the county junior and senior fair boards in supporting the county fair and may serve as junior fair coordinator.
- Replicate and adhere to existing programs, including animal science education, college and career readiness, STEM/financial management, school enrichment programming, and teen engagement, that meet the needs of the local community.
- Develop promotional material, work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, and establish and maintain partnerships within the community that support program goals.
- Evaluate educational programs and dissemination methods, utilizing existing evaluation instruments to assess teaching effectiveness, program quality and results.
- Participate in discussions with county representatives concerning program funding and share responsibility for the management of the county budget.
- May also be responsible for securing external funds to support local programming.
- Participate as a member of county, multi‑county, and/or state Extension teams to further the overall mission, vision and values of both Ohio State University Extension and 4‑H Youth Development.
- Develop an area of expertise appropriate to locally identified needs; provide expertise in the development, enhancement and support for statewide Extension and 4‑H programming, including active participation in a state 4‑H Design Team.
- Approximately 10% of time will be dedicated to statewide issues (required).
- Be an effective team player and work collaboratively with Extension Educators in all program areas (Agriculture/Natural Resources, Community Development, Family/Consumer Sciences) where interdisciplinary efforts meet broad local issues and carry out major programming.
- Actively work to ensure diversity among potential clientele and learners, and equal access to programs and facilities regardless of age, race, creed, color, handicap, sex, sexual orientation, developmental disability, national origin, marital status, or arrest or non‑program related conviction record.

Bachelor’s Degree required. - Extension Educator 2:
Master’s Degree required. - Extension Educator 3:
Master’s Degree and 11+ years of direct or related work experience required. - Experience in program design, community assessment, volunteer management, and partnership development.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
