The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure‑track assistant professor position. This position builds on the department’s strength in skeletal biology, and successful applicants will have research and teaching interests in any of the following areas: functional anatomy, primate evolution, paleo anthropology, dental anthropology, forensic anthropology, and bioarchaeology. Based in Columbus, Ohio, the position will begin in the fall of 2026.
Preferred applicants will demonstrate the potential for a sustained and substantial body of empirical work focusing on one or more of these areas.
Expected to maintain a productive research program demonstrated through publication in respected journals, seek external funding through competitive grants, teach a range of graduate and undergraduate courses, mentor students at both levels, contribute to departmental and university operations, and provide service to the discipline.
Education and Experience Requirements- Required: Hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field; have an ongoing or developing program of research; evidence of teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses; mentoring experience at both levels; publication record in highly respected journals and other strong outlets; grant experience; service to the university, department, and discipline.
- Desired: Ability to strengthen research and teaching collaborations with colleagues within and beyond the department; teach graduate‑level statistics; potential to make a significant positive impact on the field of biological anthropology.
