Geotechnical Project Engineer – GFT
Join us in Ohio to lead innovative geotechnical engineering projects on dams, hydraulics, and water resources. This hybrid role requires regular attendance at either our Columbus or Cleveland, Ohio offices.

We’re seeking an experienced Geotechnical Project Engineer to provide technical input and oversight on large, complex projects. The role focuses on foundation design, retaining walls, settlement, ground improvement, cut and fill slopes, slope stability, geohazards and landslide remediation, heavy civil construction, and linear infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities- Plan and determine scope, resources, schedule, and budget requirements for major and/or complex projects
- Independently design and/or lead a team to complete project scopes within budget and schedule requirements
- Assist in leading major or multiple large projects with multi-disciplinary teams and subcontractors and/or subconsultants
- Apply and/or lead a team with extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to evaluate, select, and apply techniques, procedures, and analyses
- Perform construction support services, including assisting client with bid activities, construction observation, coordinating with contractors/inspectors/agencies, managing field changes, and closing out projects
- Review completed project documents for conformity and quality assurance
- Conduct business development to build a book of business, generate leads, pursue new opportunities, and develop new markets/clients
- Work with multi-disciplinary teams for project pursuit and capture
- Build and maintain client relationships, understand client needs, manage client expectations, assist clients with risk evaluation and asset management
- Develop new techniques and/or improved processes
- Assist in project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments
- Represent the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments
- Assign tasks to and direct less-tenured staff and technicians
- Assist senior management in implementing business programs, and may manage organizational programs under the direction of senior management
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
- 5 – 10 years of increasing responsibility and experience in geotechnical engineering
- PE or ability to obtain within first 6 months of hire
- Experience with common geotechnical software programs such as SLIDE, SLOPE/W, LPILE, APILE, GROUP, GRLWEAP, Settle3 and gINT
- Proficient in the review and preparation of reports, plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E)
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and report writing skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Excellent field observation and data collection/documentation skills
- Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons
- Must be capable of lifting 30 pounds and traversing steep slopes and rough terrain
- Must have valid Driver’s License
- Master’s Degree with a Geotechnical focus
Salary range: $105,000 – $130,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
