Job SummaryAs a Software/Hardware Engineer within Battelle’s Cyber business area, you will support a program mission to deliver comprehensive technical expertise and testing support to our government customer, contributing to the evaluation, customization, and operationalization of cutting‑edge systems and payloads ensuring they meet the customer’s evolving requirements for effectiveness, safety, and security. You will play a key role in analyzing vulnerabilities, decomposing complex systems, and supporting the development of robust, secure architectures.
ResponsibilitiesConduct component‑level vulnerability assessments of flight control systems, GPUs, edge compute hardware, and communications infrastructure.
Identify and analyze supply chain risks and potential cyber vulnerabilities in hardware and software components.
Support the integration of automated software factory tools and digital thread processes for secure configuration management and traceability.
Develop and maintain digital twin libraries for analyzed systems, focusing on cyber architecture and risk mitigation.
Generate risk matrices and vulnerability reports with severity and likelihood ratings, and recommend mitigation strategies or alternative sourcing.
Perform comprehensive Program Protection Analysis (PPA) to identify and mitigate risks related to system vulnerabilities and adversarial exploitation.
Develop protection strategies for critical program information (CPI) and support system security engineering across design, integration, and test phases.
Conduct threat identification and criticality analysis for cyber threats and supply chain compromise.
Recommend and implement countermeasures and mitigation plans to enhance system resilience against exploitation and reverse engineering.
Prepare and deliver program protection plans, threat matrices, and attack surface analyses for internal and external stakeholders.
Advise on design modifications and protective measures to ensure lifecycle security and compliance with government requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong background in modeling and simulation of complex systems.
Experience in vulnerability analysis and system decomposition.
Proven ability to lead technical discussions and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and teamwork skills.
Experience with model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
Familiarity with SysML diagramming tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, IBM Rhapsody).
Experience with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and/or Unified Architectural Framework (UAF).
Experience with embedded systems, microelectronics, FPGA, or circuit card design.
Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C++, or other object‑oriented languages.
Experience supporting DoD programs.
Active Top‑Secret Clearance.
