The Opportunity- Function as a technical specialist in conventional and advanced wastewater treatment.
- Use processes such as physical/chemical primary treatment, conventional activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, fixed‑film processes, membrane bio‑reactors (M ), sidestream treatment, tertiary filtration, auxiliary wet‑weather treatment, and disinfection.
- Develop and apply wastewater treatment and engineering techniques under supervision to solve complex engineering problems for diverse wastewater streams.
- Focus on growing our Midwest business and contribute to global project design.

- Prepare complex engineering deliverables: process models, mass balance calculations, design criteria, P&IDs, trade‑off studies, and master‑planning studies.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously with technical challenges.
- Serve as a technical specialist, guiding teams in conventional and emerging wastewater technologies.
- Perform complex research, including bench, pilot, and full‑scale testing, and integrate data into models.
- Collaborate with the process team to recommend treatment processes, equipment, and materials.
- Collect, assimilate, analyze, and manage data for modeling and design.
- Prepare process models and carry out engineering calculations following standard methods.
- Develop life‑cycle assessment including conceptual costs and environmental benefits.
- Coordinate with internal and external team members for project execution.
- Identify key client interests and drivers for projects and new business prospects.
- Develop creative solutions that accommodate client goals.
- Support business development or pursuit activities, including pre‑positioning meetings, proposal development, and client interviews.
- Attend and present at conferences on state‑of‑the‑art wastewater projects.
- Provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, and engineering codes related to water quality and treatment.
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards.
- Give technical guidance to colleagues on projects and disciplines.
- Apply knowledge and comply with the Black & Veatch quality program.
- Work in compliance with the quality program.
- Provide guidance and direction to more junior team members.
- Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Coordinate with other internal/external members on complex projects.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctoral) in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
- 5 years experience in wastewater treatment process design.
- Experience with modern process simulators such as Bio Win, GPS‑X, Sumo, and/or Simba.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; drive for results, priority setting, planning, delegation, and listening.
- Eager to learn and contribute to team success.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor‑vehicle record search).
