Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer / Drafter to support the ASME Outside Sourced Production (OSP) business by creating and maintaining accurate manufacturing drawings, models, bills of material, and controlled engineering documentation for pressure vessels and related products. This role reports to the Program Manager and works closely with the ASME Design Engineer, Project Manager, Quality, Sourcing, Operations, and external manufacturing partners.

The CAD Designer will translate approved engineering requirements, customer specifications, and design inputs into clear, manufacturable Solid Works models and drawings for carbon- and stainless-steel pressure vessels. The role will also support drawing release, revision control, supplier technical questions, PPAP and First Article Inspection documentation, and standardized drawing practices that enable the OSP model to scale efficiently.

The ideal candidate is highly accurate, organized, and experienced in mechanical drafting for fabricated products. Success in this role requires strong Solid Works capability, practical knowledge of manufacturing drawings and GD&T, disciplined configuration control, and the ability to work effectively with engineers, quality teams, and outside fabricators.

Responsibilities
  • Create and revise Solid Works 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings for pressure vessels, tanks, components, weldments, and assemblies.
  • Translate approved engineering calculations, customer specifications, sketches, redlines, and design inputs into accurate fabrication and assembly drawings under the direction of the ASME Design Engineer.
  • Develop and maintain bills of material, weld details, nozzle orientations, dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, material callouts, and fabrication notes required for production.
  • Prepare customer approval drawings, shop drawings, supplier drawing packages, standard-product drawings, and configured-to-order documentation for OSP projects.
  • Manage drawing revisions, engineering changes, redlines, as-built updates, and document release requirements using established PDM/PLM and document-control processes.
  • Coordinate with the Design Engineer, Project Manager, Quality, Sourcing, Operations, and OSP suppliers to resolve drawing questions and support on-time technical releases.
  • Support design-for-manufacturing reviews by incorporating approved supplier feedback while maintaining design intent, code requirements, and controlled revisions.
  • Prepare ballooned drawings and support identification of critical characteristics, dimensional requirements, and inspection-plan inputs for PPAP and First Article Inspection activities.
  • Partner with Quality to support inspection documentation, including dimensional layouts, inspection points, material requirements, weld/NDE notes, pressure-test notes, and required production records.
  • Perform detailed drawing checks for completeness, dimensional consistency, BOM accuracy, drawing standards, revision status, and manufacturability before engineering approval and release.
  • Maintain and improve standard drawing templates, model libraries, weld details, title blocks, design tables, checklists, and other reusable engineering content that improves OSP speed and consistency.
  • Support continuous-improvement and digital-automation efforts, including configuration tools, drawing-data standardization, and responsible use of AI-enabled tools for documentation and checking while maintaining required human technical review.
Critical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Proficiency in Solid Works for 3D modeling, assemblies, weldments, and production drawings is required.
  • Strong mechanical drafting skills and ability to create clear, complete, and manufacturable engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing practices; familiarity with ASME Y14.5 preferred.
  • Ability to interpret engineering calculations, customer specifications, sketches, redlines, and technical requirements and accurately translate them into controlled drawings.
  • Understanding of welded fabrication, sheet-metal and plate construction, formed heads, nozzles, flanges, machining, and pressure-vessel manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Working knowledge of bills of material, part numbering, revision control, engineering change processes, and PDM/PLM document management.
  • Familiarity with ASME Section VIII pressure-vessel drawing requirements preferred; exposure to applicable Sections II, V, and IX is a plus.
  • Knowledge of pressure-vessel fabrication, materials,…
